The fear of a widespread power outage causes people to take precautions. Petrol station operators, manufacturers of electronic devices and retail chains are responding to the changed demand. For example, Hartlauer has a whole range of blackouts to offer.
What to do if the power goes out for days? Since blackout scenarios are even classified as realistic by some, there are more and more people who want to prepare for emergencies. Hartlauer also responded to this. The store chain from Steyr, which normally focuses on the areas of optics, photography, hearing aids and mobile phones, has had its own darkening range since the autumn. “Electricity, water, hygiene, heat and information are essential – we have all the products,” says boss Robert Hartlauer.
From the solar-powered LED lantern to the toiletry bag, from the camping shower with foot pump to the replacement canister – the range is wide. We are currently working on expanding the range.
“The demand for headlights is currently booming”
The Welser Doppler Group, operator of the tower oil filling stations, has made its own blackout box: it contains a gas stove, gas cartridges, a flashlight with dynamo and a lighter. Linz-based Emporia, a well-known brand for push-button telephones and smartphones, sold 6,000 crank radios through dealers in the last quarter of last year, which also have a flashlight, a solar panel and a power bank. “The demand for headlights is currently booming,” reveals owner Eveline Pupeter.
