A price label on a supermarket in Waidhofen an der Thaya is currently causing a stir in the Waldviertel. A “whole loaf” from the Kasses bakery in Thaya would have cost 12.07 euros there. Senior boss and master baker Erich Kasses speaks of a probable error, tries to clarify and explains to the “Krone” why that cannot be the case.
Bakers are currently struggling with energy and material costs – reported the “Krone”. There is currently a fuss about a photographed label of a supermarket in Waidhofen an der Thaya. A kilo of delicious bread from the Kasses bakery would cost 12.55 euros there! Because the piece weighed just under a kilo, “only” 12.07 euros was charged.
Three years of development time
Master baker Erich Kasses knows that the “total bread” is a special type of bread. Because in the 2010s, ‘soft wholemeal bread’ was developed as part of a three-year EU project. Dietary fiber releases a particularly large number of trace elements so that the body can absorb them. At that time, the senior boss of the bakery in Thaya was the only local guild representative from eight countries.
Bread is baked only in half-kilogram loaves
The bread is of high quality and has a higher price, but: “This label must have been a mistake. We delivered the last ‘healthy bread’ to this supermarket chain in November,” he emphasizes. Moreover, the whole loaf only weighs about one half a kilo, which costs 6.29 euros. There would be no such thing as a kilo of loaf of this bread. By the way: at the bakery you can buy the whole 500 gram loaf for 4.40 euros.
