In Upper Austria, the excavators have already been rolled out for Google

Date:

Five months after the tech giant announced it would build a data center on the Kronstorf-Hargelsberg industrial estate, work has also started there. Where the canal, the water, the data lines and the substation have already been realized, the focus is now on the construction of roads.

Anyone who believed that “it will never happen” is now silent… After Google’s plans for the Kronstorf-Hargelsberg industrial estate had actually been on hold for years, the tech giant is now letting it roll on its 50-hectare site, even the excavators.

Reason: The first roads have been built. “It concerns the access road to the company building, but also the connection to the B 309”, confirms Christian Kolarik, the mayor of Kronstorf.

Substation is completed
The Google site has been in the works for several weeks and this development step will not be completed until late May, early June at the earliest. When the construction of the data center will actually start, is still in the stars. The substation, which Netz OÖ GmbH built for Google, is now completely finished. This should ensure the power supply for the entire area. Canal, water and data lines have already been laid anyway.

Can the Google site still be used for agriculture this year because of the dredging works? “Definitely in some areas,” Kolarik is convinced. When Google announced in October 2022 that it was building a data center called Cloud-Region-Austria, beets were still growing on the site…
