The Japanese video game group Nintendo withdraws completely from Russia because of the offensive war against Ukraine. Nintendo Europe has decided to suspend operations in the country “due to economic prospects” and payment problems, the company said in a brief statement. The sales freeze for games was announced and implemented on Wednesday.
After the outbreak of war, Nintendo stopped supplying its products to Russia in March last year, but initially spoke of a temporary measure. Since then, the online store has stopped working due to suspended transactions in rubles.
The company clarified that Russian customers with a Nintendo Account could continue to download content they had already purchased. But there are no more options to open a new account or make payments. For security reasons, the payment details of the individual accounts have also been deleted.
