Annual inflation (CPI) is expected to fall to 6.1 percent in September from 7.4 percent in August. This is evident from the flash estimate published by Statistics Austria on Friday. This is the lowest inflation since the Russian attack on Ukraine in February 2022.
Compared to the previous month of August, prices are 0.5 percent higher. The decline is mainly due to household energy prices, which now have a dampening effect on inflation.
Finance Minister Brunner is confident
“Price pressure has also continued to decrease for food,” said Tobias Thomas, Managing Director of Statistics Austria, according to the broadcast. According to the flash estimate, the Harmonized Consumer Price Index (HICP), which is important for comparisons with other EU countries, has fallen to 5.8 percent. According to this index, prices rose by 0.9 percent compared to the previous month.
Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) writes in a statement that the decline in inflation “makes us optimistic. The positive trend continues and I am confident that inflation will decline further in the coming months.”
