A company meeting of the flight staff of Austrian Airlines (AUA) ended around lunchtime on Saturday after more than three hours. The airline had previously canceled 92 flights and rebooked the 8,000 affected passengers to other airlines of the Lufthansa Group.
A spokeswoman told the APA on Saturday that no further flights would be affected and flight operations would return to normal.
Criticism from AUA and the airport board
The AUA criticized the pilots and flight attendants for choosing the busiest day of the week for the meeting. Airport manager Günther Ofner also showed little understanding. Internal communication with employees is important, but it must be done in such a way that it has as little impact as possible on ongoing business operations.
Vida trade unionist Daniel Liebhart spoke of a “factory meeting in accordance with the labor law, which must take place once every six months”. The regulations of the works council provide for these meetings.
Easter strike averted
Current conflicts between the AUAS board and the employee representatives are not known. The AUA spokeswoman told the APA that negotiations on the salary increase, which is due in spring 2024, have not yet started. In March 2023, the board and Vida agreed on an 11 percent increase for the approximately 3,500 pilots and flight attendants, averting a threatened strike at Easter.
