The supply of cash is of great importance in Austria’s largest state. Statistically, in Lower Austria there are more than two ATMs per municipality, but in fact there are no ATMs in about 100 municipalities – which causes dissatisfaction, especially in the more rural regions.
Cash is real, especially on land, but also rare. In total, there are more than 1,200 ATMs spread across the country, but they are often distributed differently regionally – and are not located in every municipality. Above all, the ‘mergers’ of many bank branches, as well as digitalization in the banking sector, have contributed to the developments – and the trend continues to decline!
There are no ATMs in approximately 100 of the 573 blue-yellow municipalities. In our interactive graph below you can see which places these are and how far it is from there to the nearest ATM.
