There is a traffic jam at the Europark on Saturday, while commercial employees walk up and down the access road to demand more wages.
That hurts: for the first time, a rally of store employees is really bothering customers in Salzburg. From 10 a.m. they march up and down Peter-Pfenninger-Straße, directly in front of the Europark, for about an hour. The entrance and exit are therefore blocked in one direction of travel. In the shopping center itself, salespeople from three branches of major retail chains were also on strike.
Strike also in Pinzgau
At the same time, a meeting of store employees is also planned in Zell am See. The demo train will hinder traffic to the retail parks there on the accompanying road Schüttdorf.
Why do the sales staff take such harsh measures on a shopping Saturday before Christmas? “They no longer understand the blockage in salary negotiations,” says the GPA union. Works councils hear: “We are toiling during Advent and employers do not even want to compensate us for inflation?”
Salary negotiations failed again on Thursday. The employers offer 8 percent, the union demands 9.4 percent.
