In 2020, social assistance replaced the minimum income in Austria. There is almost 700 euros for life support and another 460 euros for housing. The aim is to save people in financial difficulties from abject poverty. With many more subsidies, a nice amount of money will be raised. Many employees wonder: “Is working still worth it for me?” We have the answer.
Austria is a welfare state. And that is good. When we look outside the box, we see that there is no sensible alternative. Higher income earners pay more taxes and social benefits than those who earn less. In return, the state can pay unemployment benefits, pensions and social assistance. As with all systems, there are problems here: some social parasites collect an incredible amount of money from the public treasury for doing nothing. Many employees who have to work hard for their wages criticize the injustice. But it’s not the social benefits that are too generous; rather, taxes on workers are too high.
