Elon Musk flew to Germany on Wednesday to take a photo of the Tesla factory in Grüneheid (Brandenburg), which was shut down for days after a suspected arson on the power supply. The American billionaire was greeted by his workers with cheers and shouts of ‘Elon’.
Production there resumed on Wednesday and the first early shift since the incident showed up for work that morning, a spokeswoman said. In a speech, factory manager André Thierig thanked the employees for their handling of the situation. “This is an attack on the gigafactory,” he said. “We all stick together.” Thierig also announced annual pay changes. “You can rely on that.” A collective labor agreement is not necessary. Thierig promised a bonus system and emphasized: “You are doing great things.”
“With the early service we are back at full capacity and can produce again,” was the response to the request. The employees are happy with the resumption of production, works council chairman Michaela Schmitz told RBB Inforadio.
Musk had one of his children with him
The employees also hope that Musk, accompanied by one of his sons, will show commitment to the Grünheide location. Economic Affairs Minister Jörg Steinbach (SPD) said in the days that followed that confidence had been lost as a result of the attack. According to the minister, no negative consequences for the settlement are foreseen.
Last Tuesday, previously unknown perpetrators set fire to a freely accessible electricity pylon in a field in eastern Brandenburg, which is part of the power supply for the car factory in Grünheide. The far-left Vulcan group said it was responsible for the attack. The German Federal Prosecutor’s Office has taken over the investigation.
