AMS boss optimistic – New hope for laid-off Magna employees

Date:

AMS Styrian regional manager Karl-Heinz Snobe is optimistic that many of the approximately 500 dismissed Magna employees will soon find new jobs.

The early warning message about the impending job losses at Magna in Graz will be received by the AMS on Friday. “We have announced 500 employees – according to our information there are 100 employees, the rest are employees,” explains state manager Karl-Heinz Snobe to the “Krone”. According to him, the first layoffs will take place in early to mid-June, after the 30-day lockdown period has expired.

With a total of 12,500 open vacancies on the Styrian labor market, he assumes that those affected will quickly find a job again. “There are currently 1,500 vacancies spread across Styria in the production region alone. In the Graz region we have a total of 2,500 interesting vacancies for Magna employees in the system. So I am confident that employees with the right training will quickly find a job again.”

He also assumes that a third of the Magna employees about to be laid off are from Slovenia and are therefore not part of the Styrian labor market. “Commuters must register as unemployed in their home country.”
