Appointments, applications, etc. – AMS is changing: unemployed people have new obligations

Date:

The entire communication between the National Employment Office (AMS) and its customers will be given a new basis. And there is also a new obligation for the unemployed.

Online First will now apply to unemployment benefit claims. The Social Committee agreed on Thursday that communication between the AMS and its customers should mainly take place electronically in the future

Personal consultation with the first application is mandatory
However, if you are unable to do this, you can still submit your application in person. The personal interview should only be mandatory for the first application or for a new application after two years, according to parliamentary correspondence.

Mandatory control of electronic inputs
In the future, unemployed people will have to check their electronic receipts at least twice a week. But sanctions may only follow if someone does not keep an agreement. In the future, documents will be considered delivered as soon as they reach the unemployed person’s electronic access zone.

New regulations from July 1, 2025
The new regulations are expected to enter into force on July 1, 2025, so that the AMS can make the technical preparations. In individual cases, the AMS may also require personal appearance in the future.

The law still needs to be adopted in plenary. The ÖVP, Greens and NEOS voted for it in the committee.
