Economics professor and deputy governor of the National Bank Gottfried Haber is likely to succeed Friedrich Rödler at the top of Erste Bank’s supervisory board.
This is no less a position than that of the head of the supervisory board of Erste Bank. The chairman of the Supervisory Board, who will not be elected until next year, will probably now be debated. Andreas Treichl, chairman of the Erste Bank Foundation, announced his preferred candidate for the supervisory and works councils on Thursday: economic researcher Gottfried Haber should join the audit committee as a member and succeed the retiring Friedrich Rödler in 2025.
Haber is deputy governor of the central bank. Although he has applied for the leadership of the monetary authorities, his chances are slim. He lacks the support of the ÖVP, which Labor Minister Kocher is in favor of. Haber would like to receive an informal commitment to get a majority on Erste’s supervisory board within a year to reach the top.
Semmelrock on the supervisory board?
A second personality was also mentioned: Gabriele Semmelrock should also quickly join the supervisory board at Treichl’s proposal. She would follow Mariana Kühnel there. The deputy secretary general of the Chamber of Commerce is seen as a favorite for a position as director of the financial markets regulator. If she is appointed member of the FMA, she will of course no longer be allowed to sit on the supervisory board of banks.
