First, illness hampered operations, then there was no staff at all, which led to the closure of a branch in Linz! Now Leo Jindrak is tired of being closed: After a break of almost three months, the traditional pastry shop on Landstrasse is open again. A second location could also open again in the fall.
The red and white striped awning is rolled out, the parasol is stretched over the small garden, the cards are laid out on the tables and the shop front is open so you can order ice cream straight from the country road – “it feels so good that we are open again,” says Leo Jindrak, entering the shop at Landstrasse 70.
In mid-May, the master pastry chef had to close the branch because there were not enough staff to keep the business running. Since Wednesday at 9:00 it has been open again. “We have spent months building and training a new team at the head office. Now we are all happy to get started,” says Jindrak.
“Good people come, apply and stay”
Together with his son Leo IV, he runs the family business and after a long dry spell, there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to recruiting staff. “There are good people who apply and then stay,” says the master pastry chef, who is also a federal guild master, happily.
Hospital Street: comeback in the fall?
And suddenly the comeback of the hospital street branch seems within reach again. The location on the corner of Eisenhandstrasse has been closed since September 2022 – here too, the lack of staff caused the closure, which was more bearable because Jindrak is represented at the Südbahnhofmarkt.
“I am now certain that we can open again in the fall,” said the entrepreneur, who in this context speaks of a “reopening”.
