The economic situation in Austria is tense, international fashion companies are increasingly outselling local companies. Now the Salzburg family business Gössl is shaking: the director has invited people to a press conference on Monday (November 18). The title: “Salzburg’s traditional business is on the verge of extinction”…
“Apron made of iridescent dupioni silk and rhinestone daisies on the ribbons” – this description of a dirndl apron on the Gössl homepage apparently reads too cumbersome for customers. However, the brightly lit signs of the cheap fashion chain New Yorker with ‘Dirndl – 24.99 euros’ are a draw. So much so that the next traditional Austrian company now has to fight for survival.
