Bitter news from the university group: the food logistics warehouse in Seiersberg will be closed at the end of February 2025, 91 employees will be pre-registered with the AMS for dismissal. In the future there will be only one central warehouse in Upper Austria.
The retail crisis has largely spared the food sector so far. But now there is a drastic and bitter change for those affected: as the Upper Austrian University Group (which supplies the university markets and also many Nah&Frisch retailers) announced on Thursday, the logistics location in Seiersberg will be closed at the end of February.
General Manager: “We have investigated all options”
91 employees lose their jobs and are reported to the AMS; “We have investigated all options and weighed them up in intensive discussions,” says Managing Director Andreas Hämmerle. Ultimately, it was decided to rely on a central logistics warehouse in Upper Austria. The second director Johannes Aumann emphasized: “We must take painful measures to ensure competitiveness.”
The university group speaks of a structural change in the food trade, which is especially a challenge for smaller players. Moreover, the Unimarkt store branches in Styria must remain open.
