High satisfaction: only one in two employed people works full-time

Date:

Only slightly more than half of Austrians between the ages of 16 and 65 work full-time. Another 17 percent work part-time, as shown in a recent study by TQS Research & Consulting. The others work a little or not at all.

Regardless of working hours, the survey gives employers a good report: almost nine in ten participants are at least somewhat satisfied with their job. Three quarters think the balance between work and private life is good. Moreover, more than 80 percent have no worries about their job.

According to their own statements, at least half of the respondents are doing well financially. At the same time, 14 percent indicate that it is difficult to make ends meet financially.

Less home office than desired
Another point of the study was the home office. For example, only a quarter of respondents work from home at least two days a week. Six in 10 people said their employer did not allow home offices. However, many of them do not have the impression that they always have to be on site. Overall, those surveyed would like more home offices, with only about one in ten people (eleven percent) rejecting this form of working for themselves.

Here you can see the results for the home office.

Seven out of ten participants in the study assess their personal future prospects positively. Two years ago that was only five in ten. The main concerns are wars and inflation. The majority (70 percent) are influenced by the news and do not think the government is making the right decisions (80 percent). Only about one in three people (35 percent) assesses social cohesion positively.

Study author: “Too much feel good”
“I was very surprised that so many people have already achieved a work-life balance. Apparently many people can handle things better than before. It’s almost a little too comfortable for me. “It is not possible for everyone to just work a little and pay a little,” said Dieter Scharitzer, Managing Director of TQS Research & Consulting, commenting on the results. Convenience is sometimes played off against performance.

The survey was conducted online among 1,000 people between November 27 and December 4, 2024. The fluctuation range is three percentage points.
