At the end of last year, the employees of the Audi factory in Brussels, which will close permanently in February, were still looking at a bleak future. But now the German car manufacturer has been able to reach agreement on a social plan with its employees.
The Volkswagen subsidiary announced on Monday that the company had again adjusted its offer and on this basis reached an agreement with the social partners. In addition to the statutory severance pay, the employees received a company bonus. In December, Audi stated that there had been no agreement on a social plan.
Audi produces the Q8 e-tron electric luxury SUV at the plant, which has recently suffered from weak demand. Car production at the factory will stop at the end of February.
The production facility in the Belgian capital is threatened with closure after the search for an investor failed and no alternatives were found within the Volkswagen Group. In November there was unrest during the negotiations on a social plan.
