Food traders rely on alternatives

Alcohol is deeply anchored in our culture.

Contra: grape juice in the identity crisis

In conversation with the “Krone”, food expert Katharina Koßdorff sees a great potential for red-white-red products in Arabia and the Far East:

“Krone”: Mrs. Koßdorff, is alcohol in the retreat – or not?
Koßdorff: You can’t say it that way. Alcohol -free drinks are certainly a growth segment. At the moment, however, this is really still a niche, which is of course served by our companies.

Who and where are customers for these products?
The young population mainly in Austria. The older customers still rely on alcoholic beverages. But there is a great potential abroad. Our business representatives report a strong question in the Far East and of course the Arab countries. Sometimes there are religious reasons for this – or just the background that alcohol is not traditionally sufficient for food series.

How do domestic companies benefit from this social development?
For example, there is almost no brewery that does not offer no -alcoholic goods. Above all, refreshing drinks such as hopfen -limonades are well received on the market. Of course, the domestic winegrowers or sectarian producers, some of whom have already felt in this direction or have already developed.

What is the jumping point to be successful with non -alcoholic goods?
It is the nature of the issue that ultimately always decides the customer. The products must fit in high quality and taste, then you can also think about the large selection in the drink shelf. The demand in this area will certainly continue to increase.
