Almost 400,000 people in Austria changed their electricity or gas suppliers last year. This stems from the current market statistics of the E-control Energy Regulator. Compared to 2023, this is a plus when changing.
In the case of electricity, the change rate in the previous year was 4.7 percent, 6.3 percent with gas. In absolute numbers, more people were looking for a new electricity provider. Viewed according to the federal states, Lower Austria in particular changed electricity suppliers, followed by people in Upper Austria and Vienna. Vorarlberg was at the bottom with a low change of change of 0.4 percent.
A similar image was shown when changing gas suppliers. “The gas price has risen considerably in recent days. Consumers must therefore make a rate comparison here as soon as possible, “recommends E-Control Board member Wolfgang Urbantsschitsch.
Save several hundred euros
In the case of electricity, it must be taken into account that the support of the government had expired at the end of 2024 and that the network costs rose. “That is why the energy bills and a comparison of electricity and guest rates are all the more important. Hundreds of euros per year can be saved very easily when changing the electricity and gas provider, “says Urbantsschitsch.
According to e-control, energy prices influence geological and economic policy conditions. “Do not know overheated, use the right ventilation, use the public and the bicycle instead of car, etc.-alles helps to considerably reduce energy consumption and energy costs,” advises E-control board member Alfons Haber.
