This never existed in 22 years “Workmonitor” study: For the first time, job security (79 percent) is more important for Austrian employees than the salary (75 percent). But despite the desire for stability, the intentions of work change are high than ever. Young employees of Gene Z in particular would not want to work at all – if money does not matter.
The annual Randstad study shows what employees are moving in 35 countries. Traditionally, salary, balance between work and private life and security come first. But in 2025 everything is different: the priorities are shifted – job security is at the top in Austria for the first time! Working life and work security (each 83 percent each) rank just before the salary (82 percent).
Golf of termination threatens – “I am going if I don’t feel that I feel!”
Despite the desire for safety, the willingness to change is growing. Especially drastic: 55 percent of the respondents would throw their jobs if they didn’t feel they are – a triple for the previous year (2023: 19 percent). “Nowadays, professional success is no longer only defined by the activity itself, but also by why, how and with whom is being processed,” analyzes Randstad-Austria boss Bjørn.
Jobs without a future? “Thanks, but no thanks!”
Missing perspectives are also a dealbreaker: 39 percent would not even take a job without further training – a rapid increase compared to 2023 (26 percent). What if the job does not offer learning opportunities? According to the study, every fifth (22 percent) has already been terminated – almost twice as much as a year ago.
Threaten with termination to get more money? Yes of course!
Employees can no longer be stopped: every third (33 percent) has already threatened his boss with termination to make a better salary or better conditions – almost twice as much as 2023 (18 percent). “Despite the uncertainty on the labor market, which was caused by years of the crises, people now seem to be more willing to take risks,” said then.
