Installer from Vienna: – “I have drawn up clear rules for migrants”

Date:

Wolfgang Hunger is a passionate installation program. He has high expectations of his employees, including perfect German. He has already met a lot.

Wolfgang Hunger has an installation company in the second generation in the 21st district of Vienna. The whole family, from his wife to the two sons to the sister, works. There are a total of 14 employees, in the 1980s there were still 40 employees. He also has two students, one of them is a refugee Afghan.

“Krone”: What are your experiences with migrants on the labor market?
Wolfgang Hunger: For me, applicants who want a job, many of them call a migration background. Above all, it is important for me that they speak German perfectly. Broken German and disrespectful requirements are an exclusion criterion for me. Many believe – and I don’t take Austrian applicants – if they are a bit smart and can process aids, they are professionals. Many forget that human life depends on our work.

You have included an Afghan as a student, is this exception?
No, in the beginning he did not speak German so well, but I have established clear rules for migrants: he must speak German well and must be able to deal with it if my sister gives him instructions as a woman. He accepted this and is doing well. We also have an employee from Slovakia and one from Kosovo – who also works.

Do you often also have contact with unsuitable applicants?
Yes, unfortunately more often than I would like. However, it must be said that these are not exclusively migrants, but also many Austrians fail in my self -designed recording test. Eventually I had an HTL student with me who could not add 15 and 16 and came up with decimal positions. I thought I didn’t see well. For many, the level of education has fallen so much that it is a horror.

Are you currently looking for specialists?
No, not at the moment. There is too little work. I even had to get rid of two employees.

As an installation program you have too few orders?
Yes, on the one hand this is because people have less money, and on the other hand there are too many botchers who flood the market.

Have you already had experience with it?
Naturally. We are often called in houses and apartments where a botcher was at work and we have to solve the problem. “He was cheap,” I often hear from the customers. And these botchers become even more when the EU releases access. These are often one -man companies and they have their communities. Then Austrian family businesses, like us, have no chance to survive.

Do you like to work?
I practice my work with a lot of passion. There is no lazy.
