BBVA aims to reach 35% of women in management positions by 2024

Date:

BBVA is taking another step towards gender equality and has set itself the target of a 35% presence of women in management positions by 2024. At the end of 2021 this percentage stood at 31.4%.

“With this new measure, we are continuing our commitment to promote equal opportunities for women within BBVA,” explains the BBVA President,
Carlos Torres-Vila

53% of BBVA’s workforce is made up of women, a figure that decreases as they approach management positions. From 2018 to 2021, the percentage of women in leadership positions has increased from 30% to 31.4%, so this 35% target represents an improvement of nearly 4 percentage points over the current situation of women in leadership roles.

One of the areas where the bank’s policies have the most impact in this regard is identifying those processes where it is more difficult to achieve greater diversity, from the selection phases to the promotion and professional career processes. For this it is essential to
application of Rooney’s rule, which requires at least half of the final candidates for internal positions to be women. Thanks to these kinds of measures, 52% of promotions were women last year.

On the other hand, the entity has this year’s target of achieving
40% of women on the Board of Directors

BBVA has collected awards in this area: it has been included in the
Bloomberg Gender Equality Index and in 2021 Euromoney distinguished it as one of the top three banks in terms of diversity.
