The Austrians spend an average of 159 euros per head of the population on gifts and the festive dinner at Easter. Retail expects sales of 270 million euros. Usually chocolate bunnies, eggs and toys are purchased, as the trade association has levied with the Market Research Institute Reppublika and announced on Monday.
“Easter is the second most important festival for intramural retail trade after Christmas,” says Rainer Will, director of the Trade Association. Good Friday is also the second strongest day of the year in sale for food trade.
About every fifth gives nothing away
100 euros are spent on average for gifts, chocolate bunnies and decoration, 59 euros are invested in the food. So after the break -in the previous year by around ten percent, the level of 2023 should be reached again, the broadcast said. Almost every fifth does not give away at Easter – this often has religious or family reasons.

According to the representative survey, the inhabitants of the southern federal states are particularly generous, followed by 167 euros per head of the population, followed by Viennese with 165 euros. Upper Austria and Salzburg are at the bottom of the scale with 145 euros.
