“High risk of escape” -EX-Mein-Bank Baas Weinzierl in custody in New York

Peter Weinzierl, former head of Meinl Bank, has been in custody in a prison system in New York since Friday. The American judiciary rejected his application for deposits and found a high risk of escape. He was taken to the federal prison in Brooklyn. The banker was previously delivered by Great Britain in the United States.

The next hearing will take place on May 20, reports the daily newspaper “Standard” on Sunday with reference to the Bloomberg News Agency. Weinzierl’s American lawyer has not made any opinion. The former bank manager threatened up to 60 years in prison.

Accusation of money laundering
He was accused of tax evasion based on money laundering. The former daughter of Wiener Meinl Bank, Meinl Bank Antigua, would have been streamed as part of the Odebrecht scandal, bribes for around $ 170 million.

The Vienna Economic and Corruption Officer of Justice (WKSTA) has also been investigating for years, Weinzierl is one of the accused. The banker always claimed his innocence.
