Calculation of the competition: According to an insider, the Chatgpt Maker Openai apparently recently rented Google’s chips for artificial intelligence (Tensor Processing Units/TPUs) from Google.
As the person trusted with the case, the Reuters news agency on Friday (local time) told, it is the first time that OpenAi chips use other manufacturers than Nvidia, because the company apparently no longer wants to rely on the employer Microsoft’s accounting centers.
This could promote the TPUs as a cheaper alternative to the Nvidia GPUs, according to the Insider. As Reuters already reported, OpenAAI was already planning to add the Google Cloud Service to satisfy the growing need for the calculation capacity.
According to the insider, OpenAI heets hopes that the TPUs, which it rents via Google Cloud, will lower the costs of conclusions. Google rejected a statement, while OpenAi did not respond immediately at Reuters’ request.
