In the US there is now a separate PEZ Museum for production, for which a super fan shares its collection with the company. Last year a separate flagship store was opened in Shanghai. “The journey is not nearly over yet, we see many opportunities,” enthusiastically Manfred Födermayr, the long -term leader of the sugar manufacturer of Traun (Upper Austria), who now hands over the scepter due to pension.
“We have been debts for 15 years, have our own power ratio of more than 80 percent, a turnover of almost 150 million euros and his 100 percent family -ownership,” says Manfred Födermayr with quieter but proud voice. After more than 25 years at the Head of the Confectionery Company, Födermoyr will retire, hands over to Leopold Hainy, who is chairman of the PEZ AG board of directors from Tuesday 1 July.
Almost 950 people work for the world -famous sugar destination, around 150 of them at the location in Traun. Moreover, there are employees in the production of fruit rubber and sugar in Vienna and at the PEZ production locations in the US and in Hungary.
PEZ releases an average of 32 donor figures in license per year. Partner is Disney here, even with Netflix there were recent discussions about cooperation. “We see many opportunities,” says Födermayr, who took over the company in 1999 in a crisis situation and returned to the road to success. “We have built a strong base,” he tells Hainy.
Voice -customers between six and twelve years old
And the “new” at the top of the sugar manufacturer is full of peel for action. In addition to a digitization offensive, Hainy has mainly expanded the target group. Until now, PEZ’s regular customers have been between six and twelve years old and young people want to achieve more in the future. Moreover, you can see a lot of potential on the health market: the family business already produces vitamin shower tablets, but also crafts on soft rubber varieties that must be met for the hype for nutritional supplements.
With the classic PeZ you can enjoy cult status anyway, even with the great licensors such as Walt Disney that you are an integral part of. The higher Austrians produce around 70 million donors per year. “They are all assembled manually,” says Födermayr.
