The Monetary Life project advises hundreds of people – and retains so much out of it and ends up in private bankruptcy. Now the counseling center is confronted, despite the record numbers.
“Especially now it is not easy for people in times of enormous inflation,” says Teresa Munch von Geldleben. The Educational and Counseling Center in Graz led nearly 600 discussions this year and made 500 people in workshops on Finance. Regardless of banks and financial products, she advises on exploding credit rates, poverty in old age and how you can protect yourself for the future at a young age.
The decisive factor is that people come here before it’s too late. “We are a prevention offer. We improve the handling of money. If that is missing, this means excessive accounts, debts, mountains of unopened letters with invoices and, in the worst case,” Munch recalls. “This also has to do with mental health.”
Financing is closed, the future uncertain
Although so many people have requested the offer, it could soon be over for the money to live – four employees could only be hit in Graz. The financing, in this case you come from federal ministries and base pots – lack – they have not been canceled, “but the pots are not open,” says Munich. There are political decisions that the state is “like a break” that can hardly be bridged for small organizations.
It is understood that the public sector must also save, “but the value of the work is often not recognized in the case of prevention. This leads to years and decades of consequences.” Now the team is trying to get money from other smaller financing – but it is currently not certain whether this is successful.
