Energy – independence – Burgenland should receive large storage for electricity

Date:

The Burgenland wants to be climate neutral and energy independent in 2030. That is why the expansion of the electricity storage must now be promoted. You also want to offer solutions to private households.

Burgenland has invested enormously in the expansion of renewable energy in recent years. Initially, wind turbines were used heavily, the most recently followed the expansion in the field of photovoltaic. A development that people are rightly proud of: “We have increased in Burgenland in the last five years in the energy dependence from 50 percent to 72 percent. Burgenland Energie is number 1 in the generation of wind energy and number 1 in photovoltaic power generation,” says Stephan Sharma, CEO of Burgenland Energy.

100 million euros for storage technology
Now you want to take the next step – in the direction of electricity storage. This year and next year, conventional large stores with a volume of 500 megawatt hours must be built at eight locations. The investment volume is around 100 million euros. The largest battery storage project in Austria must be built in Andau – with a storage volume of approximately 340 megawatt hours.

Regardless of four and a half years
The memory solutions are intended to achieve the full energy dependence of the Burgenland. “Electricity that is generated in Burgenland must also be used in Burgenland. For me this is the most sensible and sustainable form of renewable energy consumption,” said Governor Hans Peter Doskozil (Spö). He again confirmed the goal to make Burgenland -Climate -neutral and energy -independent in the next four and a half years.

Save instead of network costs
Given the extra network costs for PV feedback planned at the federal level, the energy group also wants to offer private -private opportunities to store their electricity in the roof. In collaboration with “Zoutstroom” you now offer an environmentally friendly storage solution on sodium or salt-based for households and companies. There is financing from the country. According to Peter Arnold and Jürgen Ellenohn from “Salzstrom”, technology must have particularly robust battery cells and a long service life. The national first of this will be built in August on the Apetlon Municipal Office.
