Shortly before Easter, the confectionery manufacturer Ferrero has to recall its popular surprise eggs. Salmonella infections linked to the consumption of the popular candy have cropped up in several European countries. The largest outbreak occurred in Great Britain.
The British news agency PA reported more than 60 patients – many of them small children. French health authorities spoke of 21 cases of infection. Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands and Ireland were also affected.
To date, there are no known cases from Austria. Product recalls have been launched in the affected states. These are batches with a best-before date between 11 July and 7 October 2022. Previous investigations have shown that the contaminated goods probably come from a Belgian factory.
