“I don’t know what the secret formula of ‘Got Talent Spain’ is”

He takes charge of Telecinco’s latest live ‘talent show’ galas, recovering from the pandemic

The live shows return to the eighth edition of ‘Got Talent España’ on Telecinco (Tuesday, 10 p.m.), which enters its final phase with those who qualify for the semifinals who will have to perform again and win the favor of the public and jury. Presenter Santi Millán (Barcelona, 54 years old) takes the reins of one of the few formats that still brings the family together for television.

-Wanted to restore the adrenaline of the live show after the pandemic?

The whole team loved him. The direct move me. The fact that you watch what is happening is a plus on television today. The semi-finals and the final of ‘Got Talent’ have to be experienced live, as an event, and people participating and participating. It’s a format that wins live. We work for the public and the fact that they experience and discuss it at home, that gives life to the program.

-Could you rate a contestant and leave your position as a presenter?

-Not really. I feel very comfortable in my job as a presenter. The task of judging the participants is much more thankless and I don’t see myself with that capacity.

-What are the requirements to win ‘Got Talent Spain’?

-There are many people who impress me and with very different talents. For example, my golden pass in this edition is a woman whose main talent is her mental strength. And that is very good, because it applies to many disciplines. It is something that the contestants have in common, the strength to appear on stage in front of so many people and the jury. It is a fundamental trait to win ‘Got Talent’. Then there are a lot of circumstances that are out of our control, that elude us, and in the end it’s the audience that decides who wins the season.

Are there still talents to discover?

-We have realized that talent is infinite, thank God. People need to discover what their talent is and improve it, to take it to the extreme consequences. It is a complicated path, first to recognize it and then to have the courage to move forward, against all odds. But I want to insist that there is talent and lots of it.

-Some winners of the Spanish edition, such as Celia Muñoz, later succeeded in other versions of ‘Got Talent’.

-Ultimately that confirms what ‘Got Talent’ is. It is a big family, not only nationally, but also internationally. It is a seal of quality that someone who wins this program in his country is welcome in other editions.

-With eight editions under its belt, despite declining audiences, it remains a format with good performance on television. What’s the secret?

I don’t know what the secret formula is. It’s something everyone is looking for, but it’s unknown. We give ourselves to the maximum. At the production level, it is one of the most demanding programs and with the most work behind it. That is reflected in front of the cameras. From the casting team to the writing. And we’re enjoying a format that I think is one of the best on television.

-How important is screen sharing?

-We attach importance to target groups, but you also need to know how to put the results into perspective. We do ‘Got Talent’ for the public and if they decide they don’t want to see us anymore, then the program is pointless. People continue to like this format, they follow us and comment on it. Whether we’re double digits above or below another season, we know the connection there is with the viewer. And as for making changes, I wouldn’t change a thing because we’re giving absolutely everything and there’s nothing more to add. We will continue if the public wants us to.

-On the other hand, the audience of the Sunday morning substitute is high.

– ‘Got Talent’ has the power to bring together different generations of the family with their different interests. Today, each person has their own screen and content, where children do not need to see what their parents are doing, and vice versa. This format manages to be that family event where everyone sits together to watch and comment. That may have been lost between weeknights, but it’s been found again Sunday morning when we’re all home.

-Have you presented competitions, participated in series… Would you like to take the step of presenting a ‘reality show’, as your network partner Carlos Sobera has done?

-I’m not one to anticipate events, but I don’t think they offer me such formats. I have some features that fit really well with Got Talent and I don’t know if they would work the same way in other programs. The chance was never given.

-He put the leaking of the sex video in the hands of the Justice Department. Is there any news?

– We carry on. The perpetrators have already been identified and now there is no court order to proceed. I understand the processes of justice. Occasionally, because I’m not in a hurry either.
