The television worker wins the seventh edition of ‘MasterChef Celebrity’ (TVE) after beating actor Manu Baqueiro in the final duel

Presenter Lorena Castell (Barcelona, 41 years old) has become the brand new winner of the seventh edition of ‘MasterChef Celebrity’ after 84 days in the kitchen, after an exciting final duel against actor Manu Baqueiro. Acknowledging that before entering the competition she was “the queen of microwaves and cans”, the ‘Zapeando’ employee opted for a varied menu inspired by the travels she made with her brother, paying tribute to to her family and their estate. The finale, broadcast on La 1 de TVE, was crowned the most watched program of the season, with 2,025,000 viewers and a 15.4% audience share.

–What does it mean to be a ‘MasterChef Celebrity’ winner?

–It is the price of effort in a program that has required many sacrifices. I’ve had to put in the batteries and drag my feet from how tired I was. There are three months where you have to be very focused, something I wasn’t aware of because the kitchen went in before me to see what they were preparing. I have discovered something that I like and that I am very good at. I’m not going to dedicate myself to being a chef, but it’s an experience that will last for my life and for my family, who are crazy about how good Asian food is to me.

–He has competed in other competitions where he has sung, imitated or even jumped off a springboard into the pool. Has ‘MasterChef’ been the hardest part of your professional career?

–In every project I participate in, I like to have fun. I am a very playful person. In all jobs, even though it is very demanding and there is a lot of pressure. It’s also kind of losing the fear of being judged and going through a personal job, a program like this. In ‘MasterChef’ you not only cook, but you are also very naked, because it has a very nice ‘reality’ part where you empathize with your colleagues and get to know yourself.

–’Zapeando’ has become a quarry of ‘MasterChef’ winners. Last year, Miki defeated Nadal…

That’s what they say (laughs). There are people who say they want to be the next winner of the competition. Quique Peinado has sometimes commented on it. If you agree, the next edition, with someone from ‘Zapeando’, let the rest of the participants be afraid. Maybe we’re an amulet.

– Do you think the audience met a different Lorena Castell after the program?

-I think so. And if they haven’t met her, they’ve seen another show. Everything happened to me. I’ve had moments of crisis where I thought I could leave, like the day Daniela Santiago saved me; and other times when I felt ridiculous, like when I failed the math facts test. You go through many processes. I am a match, just as I light up, I go out. I also laugh all day long, although that doesn’t mean I’m joking about the show. In ‘MasterChef’ you have to entertain in addition to cooking and that is what I constantly do in my daily activities.

–Has your cooking habits changed as a result of your participation in ‘MasterChef’?

—I won’t spend any more time on it now, I’ll be honest. It is true that I have many things in my house that make me cook differently. She used to say she was the queen of the microwave; Now I put the fish in the ‘roner’ at a low temperature, and it comes out better. I have work items that make my food much juicier.

-He had a big talk with Norma Duval on the show. How did you experience that moment?

–My body was fine after that cooking, in which Norma almost left. I coincided with her in other programs (‘The Challenge’) and get along very well. If I were to join her again in a different format, we would end up the same way. In the kitchen we can’t stand or understand each other. There are some situations with certain people where you feel tense, but other than that you can go out for a drink and there’s no resentment.

–How much time did you spend in the kitchen when you were not recording the programme?

-Everything he could and more. I had a chef at home helping me out, and when I had a shutdown, we kept cooking until midnight, even though we got home at seven. He used to prepare me a fish, a meat and a traditional dish to get to the test much safer. It’s been a complete commitment for three months because you don’t just cook into what you see on the show.

– Did you understand that Patricia Conde decided to throw in the towel in the semi-final of the competition?

Throwing in the towel is not for me. It’s a different way to experience the game. I think I can understand that Patricia was tired, because it is exhausting. Everyone has their reasons and there is no need to judge. We all live a process and you need to understand what crucial moment you are in when doing this program. Everything is understandable. He was not there when this happened, as he had already received the jacket for the final. I came every day, very funny, to have a good time. And working with pressure puts me.
