These are the most borrowed books, series and films in the Regional Library in 2022

‘Sira’ and ‘La bestia: Madrid 1834’ lead the literature rankings and ‘Doctor and Alaska’ is positioned as the highest demand audiovisual in physical form

‘Sira’ by María Dueñas, an author with a strong connection to the region of Murcia, became the most borrowed book in physical format by the Regional Library in 2022 for the second consecutive year, while the most requested book in digital format was ‘Last days in Berlin’, by Paloma Sánchez-Garnica, and ‘La señora March’, by Virginia Feito, among the audiobooks. In addition, ‘The Black Book of Hours’ by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi was the only work to feature in the ten most sought-after works in the three categories, according to BRMU’s activity statistics referring to last year.

In this way, in the classification of the most borrowed physical books, ‘La bestia: Madrid 1834’, from the trio of authors known as Carmen Mola: Jorge Díaz, Antonio Santos Mercero and Agustín Martínez; followed by ‘The Italian’, by Arturo Pérez Reverte; and ‘Last days in Berlin’, by Paloma Sánchez-Garnica, finalist for the Planeta Award in 2021.

The list of most requested works continued, in fifth place, with ‘The Black Book of Hours’ by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi; “The Gypsy Bride,” also by authors known as Carmen Mola; ‘Violeta’, by Colombian writer Isabel Allende; followed in eighth place by ‘La nena’, by Carmen Mola; ‘The Swifts’, by Fernando Aramburu; and ‘El castillo de Barbazul’ by Javier Cercas, closing the list of ten most requested books.

Regarding the digital format, acquired through the e-Biblio platform, five of the most borrowed works were also among the most requested in physical format. In order, the most requested books were “Last Days in Berlin,” by Paloma Sánchez-Garnica; ‘The Beast: Madrid 1834’, by Carmen Mola; ‘The Black Book of Hours’, by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi; ’36’, by Jeronimo Tristante; ‘Violet’, by Isabel Allende; “Find Your Vitamin Man,” by Dr. Marian Rojas; ‘The Gypsy Bride’, by Carmen Mola; ‘A Ridiculous Story’, by Luis Landero; ‘Rome Am I: The True Story of Julius Caesar’, by Santiago Posteguillo; and ‘In case the voices come back’, by Ángel Martín.

Similarly, the most borrowed comics in 2022 related to the comics library were mainly manga-style: ‘Dragon Ball: ultimate edition’, by A. Toriyama; ‘One piece’, by E. Oda; ‘Naruto’, by M. Kishimoto; ‘Dragon Ball Super: The Warriors of the Sixth Universe’, by Toyotaro; Yo-Kai Watch’, by N. Konishi; “Maximum Berserk,” by K. Miura; “Attack on Titan,” by H. Isayama; ‘Detective Conan’; by G. Aoyama; ‘Guardians of the Night’, by K. Gtoge; and ‘My Hero Academia Vigilante’, by K. Horikoshi.

In the children’s and youth literature section, ‘Hierba’ by KS Gendry-Kim was the most loaned work from the Regional Library last year, followed by ‘Invisible’ by Eloy Moreno; ‘Votes that count’, various authors; ‘The Good Father’, by Indira Ramos; ‘Heartstopper’, by A. Oseman; ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, by JK Rowling; ‘Federico’, by Ilu Ros; “I Feel Nothing,” by Liv Stromquist; ‘The Black Crypt’, by JR Barat; and “The Secret of Superhuman Strength,” by A. Bechdel.

In terms of audiovisual material in physical format, the most frequently loaned titles by the BRMU were ‘Doctor in Alaska’, ‘Breaking Bad’, ‘The Sopranos’, ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Mission Impossible’ (collection of 6 films ), ‘House of cards’, ‘MacGyver’, ‘The James Bond collection’, ‘The shield: outside the law’ and ‘The Americans’.

One of BRMU’s most successful services is the e-Film Murcia platform, the first online platform exclusively for libraries, for the free lending of films, documentaries, concerts, series and short films, which can be viewed online (streaming). Last year’s most sought after titles were ‘La gran belleza’ by Paolo Sorrentino; ‘Rebecca’, by A. Hitchcock; ‘The Feast’, by B. Edwards; ‘Rome’, by F. Fellini; ‘Cinema Paradiso’, by G. Tornatore, ‘Coffee to go’, by Patricia Font; ‘Odette, a comedy about happiness’, by E. Schimtt; ‘The Miracle Hospital’, by B. Shimbe; “August,” by J. Wells; and “Midnight in Paris,” by W. Allen.

Finally, ‘Mrs. March’ by Virginia Feito in the increasingly popular audiobook format most requested in 2022, followed by ‘Never’ by Ken Follett; ‘The Red Queen’, by J. Gómez Jurado; ‘The Black Book of Hours’, by Eva García Sáenz de Urturi; ‘White King’, by J. Gómez Jurado; ‘Infinity in a Reed’, by Irene Vallejo; ‘The Italian’, by A. Pérez Reverte; “Life Told by a Sapiens to a Neanderthal,” by Juan José Millás and JL Arsuaga; ‘The Art of Cheating Karma’, by Elisabet Benavent; and ‘Middle of the Night’ by Mikel Santiago.
