The Film Academy shared the emotional moment on Twitter
The passing of Spanish filmmaker Carlos Saura last Saturday marked the 37th edition of the Goya Awards, with the director expected to receive an honorary Goya that his wife, Eulàlia Ramón, and their children were eventually forced to accept.
The memory of the legendary director was present at various times during the gala, with actress Juliette Binoche also paying tribute to the filmmaker by singing the song ‘Why are you leaving?’ by Jeanette, which was part of the soundtrack of ‘Cría cuervos’, one of the most famous films in the director’s filmography.
The song was also sung by Natalia Lafourcade at the event, a version that Janette did not like. The singer voiced her disagreement with a tweet in which she regretted that the Film Academy had not contacted her to perform the performance: “Seemed embarrassing to see another singer sing. Why are you leaving?, in the Tribute to Carlos Saura, in the Goya Awards, nothing to criticize,” said the artist.
Now Janette was able to say goodbye to the filmmaker this Monday by singing the theme in the director’s funeral chapel, an emotional moment that the Film Academy shared via Twitter.
Today the sun shines in my window
And the heart
He gets sad when he thinks about the city
Because you’re leaving
like every night I woke up
Thinking of you
And on my watch I saw all the hours pass
Because you’re leaving
All the promises of my love will go with you
You will forget me
You will forget me
Next to the station I will cry like a child today
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Under the shade of a lantern
they will fall asleep
All things remain unsaid
they will fall asleep
Next to the hands of a clock
they will wait
All the hours left to live
they will wait
All the promises of my love will go with you
You will forget me
You will forget me
Next to the station I will cry like a child today
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
All the promises of my love will go with you
You will forget me
You will forget me
Next to the station I will cry like a child today
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
All the promises of my love will go with you
You will forget me
You will forget me
Next to the station I will cry like a child today
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
Because you’re leaving
