The regional library offers ‘literary walks’ through Cartagena, Murcia, Molina de Segura and Sierra de la Pila

Date:

This new activity will start this Saturday, May 21 with a walk through the streets of the Murcian capital

The Regional Library is organizing four literary-historical walks through Cartagena, Murcia, Molina de Segura and Sierra de la Pila, which will be conducted by noted author Francisco López Mengual, regional administration sources said in a statement. In each of these ‘walks’, places with literary resonance or relevance in the history and culture of the Region are visited. Attendees will have the opportunity for the author from Molin to show them live many of the places he has researched and written about.

This new activity will start this Saturday, May 21 with a walk through the streets of the capital. Those in attendance will meet next to the ficus in Plaza de Santo Domingo at 6:00 PM. Follow the route marked by the book ‘A Literary Walk through the Streets of Murcia’, through López Mengual, you will walk to the Plaza de Santa Catalina and along the way listen to stories such as the eventful life of Antonete Gálvez, a key figure in the 19th century in the region.

On Sunday 22nd, the walk through the streets of Cartagena will be held. The meeting point for the start of the activity is the stairs in the Muralla del Mar, at 10:30 AM. This walk is led by López Mengual together with Beatriz Sánchez, art historian of the port city. The itinerary is the one followed in the book ‘Walk through the stories and legends of Cartagena’, by Beatriz Sánchez del Álamo and López Mengual himself.

On the other hand, on Sunday 29, there is a route through the Sierra de la Pila, aimed at the bandits who visited the area. López Mengual will present a number of stories that appear in his work ‘Hilarito’s gun and other stories told to me’. Those present will meet at 10:00 in the parking lot of the Albergue del Rellano, in the municipality of Molina de Segura. The participants will have the chance to take a pleasant walk through the places where mythical bandits turned the region into a place known for its danger, thus approaching a little-known era of our past.

Finally, on Saturday, June 4, it’s the turn of the walk through the town of Molina de Segura. This session starts at 6:00 PM and the meeting point is the Mercedes Mendoza Library (former prison). From the starting point, several of the sites featured in the aforementioned book “Hilarito’s gun and other stories they told me” will be visited, such as the Plaza Vieja, the Plaza de la Iglesia, the Callejón de las Calaveras or the Plaza Rood, ending at the Mirador del Castillo.

Those interested in participating should send an email to the address [email protected], indicating the tour they wish to participate in.
