Four new defibrillators have been installed in Belfast in memory of the late actress Julie Maxwell.

Stacy McCann started raising money earlier this year in memory of her sister to raise money for two new defibrillators at Sunflower Bar and American Bar.

Jolie died of a heart attack at the Sunflower Bar in August of last year. He was drinking with his wife Rodrigo on the night when she drowned.

He was a popular actor in Belfast theaters and also starred in the BBC comedy Soft Patrol Northern Ireland.

Stacey thinks she would and might still be alive today if she had a pacemaker in the pub and started raising money so other families wouldn’t suffer the same pain she did.

He originally intended to buy two defibrillators, but thanks to the appeal’s success, he made enough money to buy them, while the other two were placed in The Lyric Theater and South Bank Studios, both very close to Jolie’s heart.

On Monday, Stacey and her father Jim handed a new defibrillator to Pedro Donald, owner of The Sunflower Bar.

“I hope it never works,” said Stacey, “but I’m glad defibrillators are here now and can save someone’s life if needed. If that was the case that night, Julie might still be with us today.”

“When I started to raise money, I was hoping I could raise enough money to buy a pacemaker for the Sunflower Pub and its US Assistant Tape. But thanks to the support we’ve received, we’ve been able to raise enough money to buy two more. Near two locations, Lyric Theater and Southbank Studio.

“We have also received protective bags for defibrillators and have been able to train staff at each location to use them.

“They are also registered with the Ambulance Service, so anyone who needs a three-mile radius can access them.

“I just want to thank everyone who donated and helped raise the money. We were amazed at the response.”
