The writer of Indian descent has been threatened for decades by the Ayatollahs’ regime after publishing ‘Satanic Verses’
The writer of Indian descent, Salman Rushdie, was attacked by a knife during an event in New York on Friday. Rushdie has been sentenced to death for decades by the Iranian regime after publishing ‘The Satanic Verses’. Police say he was stabbed in the neck. His health is currently unknown and the attacker, who has not been identified, has been arrested.
Rushdie, 75, has lived under threat from Iran for years for his novel ‘The Satanic Verses’, which was considered blasphemous by the Iranian authorities and for which the then Supreme Leader of the Asian country, Ayatollah Khomeini, issued a decree in 1989 declaring was summoned to the death of the writer.
The Iranian government eventually distanced itself from Khomeini’s “fatwa,” but in 2012, a semi-official Iranian religious foundation increased Rushdie’s pay from $2.8 million to $3.3 million.
