Karl Nehammer wants to lead the People’s Party out of the crisis. The Chancellor and his confidants are making things worse.
During his chancellor’s 38 months, Sebastian Kurz led a team of cunning and even more insidious precision mechanics of power that, by Austrian standards, surpassed all previously known dimensions. The scale of the plans to reach the top of the party and government may be unique in history. However, the concepts of what to do with power, other than holding on to it, were much weaker. Kurz managed to cover up this shortcoming with his good manners. In Austria, the land of neuroses, people have always been prone to the appearance of politeness. So it was all too easy to be dazzled or even seduced by the young Chancellor’s charming ways.
