Will Kickl be replaced?

Date:

The FPÖ is currently like a bad political thriller. The events of the past few days have brought to light what goes on behind the scenes at the Blues. Will party leader Herbert Kickl eventually be replaced?

Even as Herbert Kickl tries in the familiar way to suppress what has happened in recent days, the term “friend, foe, party friend” is currently taking on a whole new dimension. After what has surfaced, it is clear that there is still a lot to do within the party. Maybe even at the top.

“This Is Strange To Life”
The accusation against Kickl is fierce: did he know about the anonymous complaint against the leadership of the Viennese state party that was found on the computer of former FPÖ MP Hans-Jörg Jenewein? Federal investigators describe it as “unrealistic” that Jenewein did not write this ad himself. And he was considered a very close confidant of Kickl until his suspension and his departure from the party and last weekend’s tragedy.

FPÖ is a professional when it comes to crisis management
Of course, the FPÖ again tried to calm down quickly. After all, she already has experience in crisis management and knows that in turbulent times only a united front helps. The sudden, pronounced unity between the Blues in Vienna and the Blues in the federal government is due to the fact that the party is now trying to hold together what can still be held together. At least outwardly, the values of loyalty and honor should be maintained.

Media criticism instead of enlightenment
And Kick? He prefers to practice media criticism rather than seek relief. Can he appease his colleagues, who are thirsty for answers, with his rigorous and sweeping attack on the coverage of the alleged suicide attempt? The eternal finger pointing at others is seen through quite quickly. Even if the Viennese FPÖ is demonstratively behind Kickl, one can assume that it is bubbling internally in the blue kitchen.

It may need internal consequences
How things progress at the top of the FPÖ will likely also depend on what other accidental finds of Jenewein’s seized devices become known. If the data is as explosive as that of former ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmids, this case could be far from over. Then it takes more than a juicy media scolding – possibly even internal consequences.
