The fact that electricity will be subsidized to ten cents per kilowatt hour from December, relieves small consumers. Larger families and others will be hit hard by inflation for the time being.
The pillars of the electricity price brake have now been set and it is also becoming clear who will benefit from this and who will be faced with high costs for the time being.
The emergency package costs between three and four billion euros
One thing is clear: we are all going to pay for the package, because it will cost 3 to 4 billion euros in taxpayers’ money. Other “losers” are all those who use gas, fuel oil, pellets or district heating, because targeted lighting for these forms of energy should only be provided in the next step.
And families with many children with an annual electricity consumption of more than 2900 kilowatt hours (kWh) are currently receiving too little attention in the coming electricity price ceiling. Here the government promises an improvement, for example on request.
Government sponsors rate until mid-2024
In principle, however, the electricity price is automatically subsidized for all household customers (including second homes!). As a customer you don’t have to do anything about it. A basic requirement of a maximum of 2900 kWh per year will cost only ten cents net per kWh from December 1, 2022 to June 30, 2024.
The difference from the respective supplier’s full price is paid by the state (see table below for examples). To prevent the electricity suppliers from directly raising their prices, the subsidy is limited to a net electricity price of 40 cents. So the subsidy amounts to a maximum of 30 cents net per kWh.
The electricity suppliers will have to deduct this from December, so the cheap 10 cent rate already applies to partial bills. Anyone who consumes more than 2900 kWh pays the regular rate for the additional requirement.
