The PSE-EE today presented the final calendar of the internal primaries for the municipal and regional elections at the National Committee that the party celebrated in the Euskalduna Palace. A process that, according to the party’s general secretary, Eneko Andueza“it is the first step on a fundamental road to gain strength, strengthen our presence in city and provincial councils and, ultimately, remain decisive in Basque politics”.

After the call for elections will be held on July 23, the process will begin on 19 and 20 of this monthwhen applications should be submitted.

Between 21 and 27the candidates must provide the necessary guarantees, and the day 28 the proclamation of the candidatures will take place, after which an information campaign period will be opened, from September 29 to October 8.

The October 9 The first day of voting takes place. In cases where there are more than two candidates and none have reached an absolute majority, a second round will take place on October 16.

As for the approvals, any candidacy must present at least the approval of 12% of the militants with voting rights, i.e. 53 of the 440 who have that power. No candidacy may contain more notes than those corresponding to 15% of the membership.

Focus on San Sebastian

These PSE-EE primaries are expected to take place in Euskadi without major shocks, although one of the focal points will undoubtedly be in the San Sebastian City Council.

Since the former mayor of the city Odon Elorza announced that he would become mayor again, competing with the current socialist spokesman in the city council Marisol Garmendiawho also confirmed his intention to appear.

Garmendia, while still unofficially, has received the support of 57 voting militants, so it must be assumed that he will get the necessary approvals (53) to present himself.

Elorza is also expected to get the approvals, some because they support him, and others because they want him to pass the initial screening and really compete for the candidacy.
