Wöginger in “Club 3” – coalition battle for funding agreement

The government is under constant pressure due to the energy crisis. Inflation is getting heavier. According to the survey, people don’t give a damn about Corona. It is doubtful whether the reverse is also the case. Autumn currently has acute matters ready, this is also emphasized by ÖVP club president Wöginger at “Club 3” (“profil”, “Kurier”, “Krone”).

“The government has invested 50 billion. More than ever,” says Wöginger. Given the urgency, accuracy must suffer. The crisis within the party, such as the lows in the federal and state polls, is also a sensitive issue. The party and numerous ÖVP people, including Wöginger himself, are under investigation. It is the presumption of innocence. “So far, all proceedings have been halted.” The coalition with the Greens goes much further. But there are dissonances.

Not only for asylum and climate issues (keyword shift in CO2 pricing). There are currently intensive negotiations on subsidies for companies. Due to the energy costs, two billion euros will be available for February to September. After all, it’s not that easy.

The Greens are making demands. Among other things, a ban on heating pads and spotlights is under discussion. “But it is especially important to us that small and medium-sized enterprises are also supported. And that there are no manager bonuses,” says the office of green club president Sigrid Maurer. Her colleague Wöginger, with whom she gets along well, says: “We are working hard on a solution.” They do not want to go into details.

Laura Sachslehner illustrated the ÖVP crisis. The 28-year-old resigned with a loud bang (“The ÖVP has lost its values”). In addition to the opposition, the Secretary General also targeted the Green coalition partner before being taken out of the game herself.
