The BBB has confirmed that it has proposed to repeat Juan Mari Aburto’s candidacy as mayor of Bilbao in the 2023 municipal elections. If he wins, it would be his third term as mayor.

The Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburtoopts for re-election in the municipal elections 2023, as confirmed by the PNV. The first mayor will therefore opt for a third term at the head of the Consistory of the capital of Biscay.
The PNV’s Bizkai Buru Batzar confirmed this afternoon that it has proposed Aburto’s candidacy for the Villa’s jeltzale membership, which is now to be debated in the internal process commencing on October 4.
Once the proposal is submitted, the party’s bases in Bilbao will “have the final say”. According to the PNV, “it is in their hands to approve this proposal or propose it to other people.”
The PNV candidacy election process consists of two rounds, the first, which ends on October 16, in which militancy will “promote new candidates”.
In the second round, to be held between October 27 and November 10, the Bilbao affiliate will have to vote for the candidates in the first round.
