Free public transport – “Free refueling too?”: FPÖ scolded Ukrainians

Date:

The city of Vienna has extended the free use of public transport for Ukrainian refugees in the federal capital until the end of October. That irritates the freedom fighters. “I wonder what’s next. Maybe refuel for free?” Etches Viennese FPÖ boss Dominik Nepp.

“End the discrimination against your own people. What applies to Ukrainians must also apply to Austrians,” Nepp continued. According to him, free public transport should be accessible to everyone and the annual tickets should be renewed free of charge.

Büro Hacker: “Unbureaucratic solution”
In Vienna, too, the offer of free use of Wiener Linien’s public transport “in the sense of a quick and unbureaucratic solution” continues to exist. The office of Social Councilor Peter Hacker (SPÖ) announced this on Tuesday. The measure will be extended again until the end of October. The travel documents are sufficient as proof during an inspection.

We are working on a solution for people in basic care
At the same time, the city of Vienna says it supports the efforts of refugee coordinator Andreas Achrainer to find a long-term Austrian solution to the travel costs of people with basic needs. Currently, only certain trips can be reimbursed, which limits mobility and creates a lot of bureaucracy.

ÖBB also extends free travel for refugees
By the way: ÖBB is also extending free travel for people who have fled Ukraine. According to Radio Vienna, a spokeswoman for ÖBB has confirmed that free use is now possible until the end of October. This was decided in consultation with the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management.

According to the report, ÖBB has issued about 390,000 tickets for travel by refugees from Ukraine since the start of the war. From November, only people who come to Austria for the first time will receive a one-time free ticket.
