Candidates in the ORF – Rosencrantz accuses the EU of being horny for war

Date:

The round of television appearances for the Hofburg elections is coming to an end. On Thursday, the seven candidates for the highest office in the state were invited to the ORF to put forward their ideas in individual interviews. Liberal presidential candidate Walter Rosenkranz, who accused the EU of warmongering, attracted attention.

A classic round of elephants failed because incumbent Alexander Van der Bellen, like his predecessors – including Heinz Fischer – refrained from confrontation in the run-up to the re-election. The ORF had the candidates appear in order of their voting strength, the most promising last, which meant that Van der Bellen had to wait the longest for his appearance.

VdB: “Oida, that’s enough”
The incumbent had to defend himself immediately because he didn’t want to argue with the challengers. His argument remained that after six years people would already know how he would react in crisis situations. The performances of the opposing candidates in the election campaign would have encouraged him in this decision. Van der Bellen dismissed criticism of social media appearances as humorless: “No one seriously believes that Juli, my dog, gives an interview.” The 78-year-old doesn’t consider himself too old for the office: “I think I am slowly mature enough and old enough to hold this office.” If he no longer felt fit enough, he would certainly say, ‘Oida, that’s enough.’

Leaving the EU? Rosary would vote no
Rosenkranz put his focus on the neutrality Austria has given up by supporting Russia’s sanctions. In a referendum on leaving the Union, he would still vote no at this point because there is an opportunity for reform. But if you’re headed for an iceberg – and it’s not far away – it’s better to leave the EU in a lifeboat, that is, through a referendum.

The sanctions policy could also be a reason for Rosenkranz to dismiss the government.

Wallentin wouldn’t sign legislation with Inland I
Attorney Tassilo Wallentin said many of the difficult problems of the time, from asylum to inflation, had simple solutions. But the current system cannot do that. It takes someone from the outside like him to get a breath of fresh air. On a second round, he would find everyone better than the seated one. He would not sign any laws with Inner I because it excludes the sexually ambiguous and transsexuals and therefore may be unconstitutional.

Staudinger: ‘I can’t bring that together’
Shoe manufacturer Heinrich Staudinger was again unconventional. Even as Federal President, he wouldn’t abide by laws he can’t understand: “I can’t put that together.”

Brunner worked his way through the state
MFG boss Michael Brunner worked on the content of the state again: “Do you really still believe in a functioning rule of law in Austria?” He wants to strengthen the role of the president, expand and upgrade referendums and to do this, dismiss the government and replace it with a transition cabinet.

Grosz: transitional government until new elections
Like Brunner, Gerald Grosz, who also testified to failure, for example in the Corona policy, would set up an interim government until new elections: “That would be salvation.” to end. Grosz was very outraged that he was asked about a past civil conviction. In a second round, he would support any opponent of Van der Bellen in the sense of a “defeat to the establishment”.

Wlazny: “I’m fresh”
Dominik Wlazny, who became known as a singer and founder of the Marco Pogo beer party, has similarities with the incumbent. He still sees himself as a better alternative: “I’m fresh in my political work.”

Wlazny sees the fact that at the age of 35 he has just reached the minimum age for a start. Despite his young age, he brings with him a lot of experience as an entrepreneur and doctor. He does not share any criticism of the Beer Party name: “I never really talked about beer during the election campaign.”
