The mayor of Vitoria has not announced whether he will be the PNV candidate again in the next municipal elections. This week the Araba Buru Batzar will announce the names of the candidates for city council and provincial council.

Like the rest of the parties, GDP is in the process of internal election of positions to generate the plates facing the municipal and regional elections will take place in May 2023. Today the directors of the Araba Buru Batzar Y Gipuzkoa Buru Batzar to finalize the lists and it is expected that the names of the candidates will be announced this week, including from the Mayor’s Office of Vitoria-Gasteiz and the Provincial Council of Álava and Gipuzkoa.
Interviewed during the show “Egun on Euskadi” of ETB, the current mayor of the capital of Alava, Gorka Urtaran, has not revealed whether it will reappear. “As always”, he emphasized, “the party will decide”. However, after stressing that being mayor is “an honor and a privilege” to him, he clarified that he understands that “the time will come one day to step aside”. “I became mayor at a time when the party decided that my participation in local politics was necessary, and I took the step at a very difficult time. We started governing with only five councillors. I think the hardest I’ve endured ,” he added.
Likewise, he explained that he didn’t get to City Hall “by pushing” nor will he leave “grabbing the seat.” “I know the day will come, and when it comes, I’ll stick with the positive and try to forget the negative,” he concluded.
Of the three capitals of the CAV, the candidate for the city council of Vitoria is the only one who has the PNV pending communication. Eneko Goia and Juan María Aburto will again be the candidates for the consistory of Donostia and Bilbao respectively.
As for the councils, it remains to be seen who the candidates will be for Álava and Gipuzkoa. Last month, the jeltzales announced Elixabete Etxanobe’s candidacy for the Provincial Council of Bizkaia.
