Interview with Ikoitz Arrese (EH Bildu) about the tensions surrounding the education pact

The parliamentarian of the sovereignist coalition assures that “discussions that can arise overnight do not affect a strategic pact”. However, he shows his “distrust” and claims that they will try to resolve it in the pact’s oversight committee in about 10 days.

EH Bildu’s MP and Education Minister in the Sovereignist Coalition, Ikoitz Arreseinsisted that, despite the disagreements that have arisen, “the education pact does not falteras its signatories (PNV, PSE-EE, EH Bildu and Elkarrekin Podemos) have marked “the lines of action for the next 12 years”.

The Basque government’s offer to PP+Cs, as part of the budget negotiations, to organize two-year lessons in private schools has drawn criticism from Elkarrekin Podemos and EH Bildu. Both formations appeared yesterday to express their “concern, disagreement and distrust”. EH Bildu’s parliamentarian has again influenced what was said yesterday in an interview awarded to Euskadi Irratia’s “Faktoria” program – both the Basque government and Elkarrekin Podemos have been summoned, but only the coalition has accepted the interview.

According to Arrese, the issue requires “rest” and he believes that the “most appropriate framework” in which to discuss it is the monitoring committee of the pact. EH Bildu asked for a meeting yesterday and hopes the meeting can take place within 10 days. “We will try to solve it, we need to talk about how to develop and defend the pact,” he said.

The representative of EH Bildu on that committee assures that it is “incomprehensible” that an education proposal is made to a party outside the pact (PP+Cs), and that it also happens outside the education framework (in the budget negotiation). Likewise, he emphasizes that “the order of the factors has an influence”, since, in his opinion, universality and freeness must be guaranteed within the Haurreskolak Consortium – it is scheduled for September 2023 -, and after that, “when that is done, regulate the stage from 0-2 years”.
