The tax pie will be redistributed from Monday. In the late afternoon, the federal, state and local governments will meet with their top representatives for a kick-off round on tax settlement. Huge sums of money are involved in this. If you look at last year’s figures, 93 billion had to be distributed.
The countries had been pushing beforehand to get a bigger share of the revenue than before. The municipalities also have corresponding wishes. Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP) is open about this, but in return demands that the other municipalities take more responsibility.
Concrete results are not expected on Monday. After the first round, the coming months will be divided into subgroups that deal with themes such as childcare, health, care, climate protection and property tax. The new financial settlement should be in effect by the autumn. The entry into force is planned for 2024.
