The Ministry of Climate wants to make it easier for people in Austria to switch to public transport. Because the distances to and from the train station are of course a major obstacle for many, there is now support – in the form of a new subsidy.
In concrete terms, from March 2023, the purchase of (e-) folding bicycles will be subsidized up to 600 euros – provided that the buyer has an annual ticket for public transport. This was announced by the Ministry of Climate Protection via a broadcast.
The ministry contributes a maximum of 450 euros to the subsidy, the remaining 150 euros will be borne by the sports retail trade. When folded, the folding bicycles may not exceed 110 x 80 x 40 centimeters – they can therefore be regarded as luggage on ÖBB trains.
Financing for transport bicycles has been increased
From March, there will be a subsidy of up to 1000 euros for (e-)transport bicycles – previously this was only up to 900 euros. The funding of at least five electric bicycles for companies, municipalities and clubs, amounting to 400 euros per e-bike, will remain the same. However, all subsidies are capped at 30 percent (or 50 percent for private individuals) of the purchase price.
