Chancellor’s speech echoes – Kogler annoyed by “this overinterpretation”

Date:

The large-scale speech by Chancellor Karl Nehammer (ÖVP) continues to catch on. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler (Greens) discussed this in detail for the first time on Tuesday. He sees no problem for the turquoise-green coalition, the ÖVP boss finally gave a speech for the year 2030 and beyond. In terms of content, Kogler disagrees at all, especially on the climate issue: one should “work ahead and not look for salvation in the past”, he said.

In his speech last Friday, Nehammer opposed the end of the internal combustion engine and the “apocalypse of doom”. The Greens were somewhat annoyed. However, Kogler is little surprised: it was clear from the start that the event was organized by the ÖVP and that it was a speech by the party chairman, and “at least that is his right”, he told APA. It is “increasingly common for parties to start a program process”.

No green shock
A state of shock on the part of the Greens – Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler did not respond until the next day – Kogler denied: The observers’ reactions simply led to people being asked what the Greens thought. “This overinterpretation really gets on my nerves.” When asked if he saw the statements as tips against the Greens, Kogler said it was “rather about the content of the statement” and “the ÖVP should be asked what she means”.

“Possibly different views” – but only in the future
The Greens are currently posting “Climate Happiness” while the Chancellor is promoting the internal combustion engine. For Kogler, the “now” still fits together. Many common program items have been implemented or are currently in progress. For the years from 2030, there “may be different views,” Kogler said.

“Except for a few right-wing underground fighters…”
For the Greens, it is clear that the big future lies in climate protection, with all the opportunities for the economy and quality jobs – “I had assumed that this would also be the case for the ÖVP”, Kogler continued. For example, during a visit to BMW in Steyr, the ÖVP, together with the Federal Chancellor, noted that investments in electromobility are investments in the future. “Now there is a very good chance that we have engines that will take us off the drug needle of oil and gas. With the exception of a few right-wing underground fighters, that has actually been state of the art for a long time.”

Frowning at Nehammer’s alien plans
The Greens were also not happy with Nehammer’s – vague – proposal to halve social security for foreigners. “I don’t know who can do anything with this announcement,” Kogler said, somewhat bewildered. Most lawyers and experts are of the opinion that not much is legally possible. With insurance benefits, it is already clear that those who pay in there are also entitled to the benefit. And if you’re looking for labor, the suggestion is also “unwise,” Kogler pointed out that thousands of workers are needed each year in healthcare alone. In addition, Kogler recalled “crushing defeats of turquoise blue” in the highest courts in similar projects.
